Dilation and curettage after spontaneous abortion -
genetic diagnostics after   repeated miscarriages

A miscarriage in the early stages of pregnancy is common. Every fourth to seventh pregnancy that has been confirmed by a doctor ends in a miscarriage. This is no consolation for those affected. The loss of a longed for child is a painful experience.

It is often not possible to determine the actual cause of an early miscarriage. As well as infections, metabolic diseases, hormonal or immunological factors, chromosomal anomalies can also play a role.

If there are repeated miscarriages, genetic diagnostics are recommended to clarify whether another miscarriage can be prevented with a treatment. It can also determine whether there is a higher risk of disability with a subsequent pregnancy.

For patients who suffer a miscarriage after two spontaneous abortions, we work closely together with Genetikum Stuttgart when providing subsequent care. During the curettage , that is carried out after a miscarriage to ensure that no traces of placenta remain in the uterus, we collect tissue material and send it to the human genetics laboratory for genetic diagnostics.
